How BackHub protects your privacy

Your privacy is critically important to us. We (BackHub UG limited liability) have a few fundamental principles:

  • We don’t ask you for personal information unless we truly need it.
  • We don’t share your personal information with anyone except to comply with the law, develop our products, or protect our rights.
  • We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the on-going operation of one of our services. If you have questions about deleting or correcting your personal data please contact our support team.

BackHub UG limited liability (hereinafter “BackHub”) operates the software as a service at (hereinafter referred to as “Webspace”). It is BackHub’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our Webspace, products and services.

Information Collection of Webspace Visitors

Like most website operators, BackHub collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. BackHub’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how BackHub’s visitors use its products and services. From time to time, BackHub may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its Webspace, products and services. BackHub also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users. BackHub only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to BackHub’s Webspace and users of our products choose to interact with BackHub in ways that require BackHub to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that BackHub gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for our backup service at (“Webspace”) to provide a username and email address. Those who engage in transactions with BackHub – by purchasing a monthly plan to our GitHub backup services, for example – are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, BackHub collects such information only insofar, as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with BackHub. BackHub does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Log Data

We collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Webspace (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the Pages of our Webspace that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.

In addition, we may use third party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this type of information in order to increase our Service’s functionality. These third party service providers have their own privacy policies addressing how they use such information.

Aggregated Statistics

BackHub may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its Webspace and products. For instance, BackHub may monitor how features of BackHub are being used. BackHub may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, BackHub does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

BackHub discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on BackHub’s behalf or to provide services available at BackHub’s Webspace and other websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using BackHub’s Webspace and other websites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. BackHub will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, BackHub discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when BackHub believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of BackHub, third parties or the public at large. If you are a registered user of BackHub Webspace or product and have supplied your email address, BackHub may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with BackHub and our products. We primarily use our various product blogs to communicate this type of information, so we expect to keep this type of email to a minimum. If you send us a request (for example via a support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. BackHub takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. BackHub uses cookies to help BackHub identify and track visitors, their usage of BackHub’s Webspace and products, and their Webspace access preferences. BackHub visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using BackHub’s websites, with the drawback that certain features of BackHub’s services may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

BackHub may use your personally-identifying information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information that may be of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving any, or all, of these communications from us by following the unsubscribe link or instructions provided in any email we send.

Business Transfers

If BackHub, or substantially all of its assets, were acquired, or in the unlikely event that BackHub goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of BackHub may continue to use your personally-identifying information as set forth in this policy.

International Transfer

Your information, including personally-identifying information, may be transferred to — and maintained on — computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction. Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Our Webspace may contain links to other sites that are not operated by BackHub. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

The security of your personally-identifying information is very important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personally-identifying information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, BackHub may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in BackHub’s sole discretion. BackHub encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to its Privacy Policy. If you use the Webspace or one of our products, you should also check your dashboard for alerts to these changes. Changes to the Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on our Webspace.
